Amsterdam (NL). Deze staf, vervaardigd in Amsterdam werd oorspronkelijk voorzien van 4 dwarslatten. Hier werd 1 replica van een dwarslat gemonteerd. Gesigneerd en gedateerd ***JvK*** en ***1739***. Om de declinatie van een hemellichaam te meten, houdt men de gegradueerde stok voor zich uit, en schuift men vervolgens de dwarslat over de schaal totdat de bovenste tip van de dwarslat raakt aan het hemellichaam, en de onderste tip aan de horizon.

Gerard van Keulen, son of Johannes, born 1678, took over the business in 1714 and continued to expand the firm.
