The inventors of the compass used it primarily for geomancy in the first centuries. This model also serves as a sundial. The compass needle, as always with the Chinese, points south.

1/1
Framed fruitwood Chinese sundial with compass used in geomancy, feng shui, the custom of determining the most auspicious placement of buildings and objects in harmony with the environment. These practices traditionally influence city planning, the orientation of doorways, and even the positioning of burials, which can affect family members.
The needle is poiting to the south!
Not sure if this is only a Geomantic compass or more a sundial
The compass in the centre has 8 directions, two sundails have 3 circles and 12 directions ( hours?)
