A FINE 17IN. RADIUS VERNIER OCTANT BY GEORGE ADAMS I, CIRCA 1770 signed and inscribed on maker's plate G. ADAMS Mathl. Inst. Maker to His MAJESTY / Fleet Street London, ivory scale divided to 95º and inscribed James Smallwood to left, Vernier with centralised '0', brass index arm with guard, pin-hole sights, two interchangeable shades, mirrors and brass feet -- 18¾ x 16½in.
