A MARINER'S ASTROLABE
heavily cast in brass after the original Valentia astrolabe, shaped ballast, the upper half divided but un-numbered, shaped shoulder with universal suspension ring, period style alidade with countersunk pinnials in sighting veins -- 7in. (18cm.) diam

The Valentia astrolabe of 1588 was discovered under a rock on Valentia, off Southern Ireland, and is now retained as part of the National Collection at Greenwich as NAV0022.
